Winds of the World - Summer 221

From Esterrapedia

Winds of the World Homepage

As the days grow longer, The Concord marches to war. The bureaucracy is in place and the new alliance of realms is prepared to test itself in the fires of conflict and discovery.

The delays of the winter summit push the campaigning season shorter but under pressure the Concord will achieve greatness. While the wars are old, the battles are new and the banners of the Concordian Armies are unfettered by battle honours or the scars of defeat. Even the First Banner of Bordevar is only now returning from its first field battles against the enemy.

Beyond the fields of steel and bloodshed The Concord deals with the local ambitions of its people; it hunts monsters, prepares for calamity and celebrates the growth of its borders. Now is a summer of success within our new nation. Long may it continue.

The Battle of The True Wilds

The Battle for Weiland - 221

The Battle for Windholme

In the mountains and along the coast, the Illsevir are there. They march from Baelags Holdfast to tear the land of Windholme asunder. Facing the Eel in Windholme are the warriors of Deorlings Citadel. They sally out themselves, leaving behind the fortress of their home and clash with the Illsevir along the eastern parts of Windholme. In the eaves of the Vale of Stags and the fields of Brakkenloh they trade blows, the proud warriors of the Valley and the silent warriors of the Illsevir. The warriors of the Valley carry the day. While they take more losses than the Illsevir, they hold the line. Windholme remains undamaged by the forces of the Illsevir.

Game Information

The unique strength of Deorlings Citadel has protected Windholme and bloodied the Eels nose. However given a few changes to the Valley (see An Issue with Stones and Numbers below) this will likely not be the case in the future. The Concordian Pathfinders wish to confirm the following: - The Eel is not beaten and continues to rip and tear at the edges of Windholme. There will be a chance to bring Battle to the Illsevir there during the Summer Summit.

The Second Battle for Bolsterlee

The First Test of Freedom

High in La Lungo Elsa (or La Calidez if you are Andashi) the Shark has found hidden paths. Capable of carrying his whole army, thousands of Illsevir march silently through the winter rain and frost. Concordian Pathfinders retrieve their equipment and retreat, The Concord will have to bring battle to this bloodthirsty monster in the summer. As warmer days arrive, the armoured force of the Illsevir descends from the mountains and marches East. While scouts and raiding bands move into the western parts of Madre Campo, the vast bulk of the Sharks army attacks Mivara, the westernmost settlement of Lerona Mere and home to its mining and ore industry. Once again, the Lerona Mere will give their lives for freedom.

Game Information

The Concordian Pathfinders wish to confirm the following:

  • The heroes of The Concord will get a chance to take to the field and attempt to swing the Battle of Mivara in the Concord’s favour during the Summer Summit.

The War Against the Twinblade Confederacy

While tensions are broken for a moment as The Concord experiences victory across the fields of war, the western coast of The Concord remains tense. Every ship on the horizon is a point of concern until it comes closer, revealing its nature. Rumours of activity in Calandri and the growing presence of the ‘Pirate City of Corvarrias’ to the north continue. And while Twinblade ships capture vessels travelling on the Great Trade Sea under the banner of Ophelia Diablos and skirmishes break out between Andashi nomads and bandit marauders in the southern parts of Mukarrem, it is no more than normal.

Game Information

The war against the Twinblade Confederacy remains a Sword of Damocles over The Concord. But for now, they appear content to not invade the Western borderlands in pursuit of conquest.

Concordian Pathfinders Report - Summer 221

In preparation for the assembly of The Concord’s heroes at the Summit, the Pathfinders have been busy across the nation, preparing for confluxes and ensuring that the portals can be operated safely and effectively. The Pathfinders wish to note that in circumstances where the portal has been attuned to allow allies, those allies must not outnumber the main force. Some of the possible opportunities for confluxes are outlined below:

The Civil Service Report - Summer 221

As the year grows warmer, the Civil Service moves to assess the positions available for election in the Summer Summit. Treasury and Exchange reports are also included.

An Issue with Stones and Numbers

War Chamber/Iron Valley

An unfortunate series of miscalculations lead to a vast underestimation of the strength of Deorlings Citadel on paper. The Civil Service believed that the fortress was only worth two thousand warriors on its interior side where the real number was twice that! However an Illsevir sabotage has severely shaken the foundations of the structure, reducing it to its projected strength. The Civil Service breathes a sigh of relief as the Concord sweats.

Game Information

Deolings Citadel was incorrectly presented as 4000/2000, with the weaker side facing Into Windholme, rather than out. This has been corrected, but the last campaign turn will treat the strength as 4000/4000 in the interest of fair play.

Portal Politics

Shardcircle

The Civil Service working within the Shardcircle has been hard at work assessing the bureaucratic processes of the Council. Primarily to ensure functionality, but also to ensure it falls in line with the independence of The Shardcircle and other councils. After concerns were raised that The Church was leveraging undue amounts of pressure on The Shardcircle, an action that was determined to be against the example laid down by Niccolo, The Shardcircle has decided to empower mages who dedicate their efforts exclusively to arcane power and research.

Secular Mages (that is, mages who are not priests) will be granted three votes on Shardcircle business, while Religious Mages (mages who are priests) will retain their single vote. The Shardcircle wishes it known that following the religion of The Divine Spheres is still central to their function, and that all are welcome within their hall, but that the pressure of The Church should not affect independent bodies, such as The Shardcircle.

Game Information

Characters who vote in the Shardcircle who have any votes in the Church will be classified as ‘Religious Mages’ and retain a voting weight of 1 within the Shardcircle. Characters who attend the Shardcircle but do not have votes in the Church will be classified as ‘Secular Mages’ and will have three votes. All characters who attend The Shardcircle will remain eligible to attain Shardcircle titles within the current guidelines. This has been done (alongside other actions) to address concerns that The Shardcircle was simply an extension of the Church, rather than a council in its own right.

The Tithe of the Spheres

The Church of the Divine Spheres/ The Senate

By the decree of the Concordian Senate, by the motion of Marciana Fuchs, Senator of Lerona Mere, the Senate will match any donation to Church, until they have paid 10 Locks, per summit. The Senate hopes that this will prompt the Church to seek out donations and will replace the stipend received from the Artebazzani Church until the Winter Summit.

A New Church, a New History

The Church of the Divine Spheres/ Leylines

As news of The Concordian Church’s split from the Church of Artebazzan crosses Southern Esterra there is a wide variety of responses. These responses are as diverse as the Spheres, as complex as their followers and as daunting as each new day. What can be said for surety is that across the Concord there is a sense that now is a great and momentous time, not just for the world, but for our spirits.

Game Information

All characters who are particularly religiously focused may start with the following roleplay brief: Now isthetime of the Spheres. You are driven to livein theexample of your Sphereto a greater extent, it is your guiding starin a stormy life. All Graced characters will experience the following roleplay brief: The pressurethat your Gracing puts on you to act a certain way iseven more prominent now. You Graceroleplay briefshould either be more pronounced or you should be noticing thesocietal pressurethat is placed on you morethan normal. With religious fervour on the rise, all Congregations will produce an additional 2 Crystal Mana before the Summer Summit.

An Emergency Change

The Senate

Upon review of the Senate processes, the Civil Service has decided that they must balance their ability to organise the senate, with the requirement to allow the Senate to lead the Concord. As such the Civil Service has stated that they have the ability to host a single emergency senate session over the Summit, as far as resources allow. To begin an emergency senate session, all senators must gather in the Senate Chamber and pass an informal simple majority vote (50% plus 1) with the Symposiarch present. At which point an emergency session will be called, which will move directly to Senators Business before concluding.

Al-Asah’s Antidote

Shardcircle

As the summit draws near, the Andashi School of Gifts posts messages about the city of Obregon and sends samples of a new potion to the rest of the Concord. Designed and guided by the Headmistress Shumidriyah Al-Asah, the concoction is a more powerful antidote that works to increase the body's own ability to heal wounds and stop blood loss.

The concoction was particularly focused on attempting to address the Blasserstreit plague in The Greenweald.Initial studies show that the mixture is a valid replacement for common treatment at the first stage of the plague, provided wounds are cleaned.

Game Information

Al-Asah’s Antidote has been added to the list of Potions and may be learned by a character using the Apothecary or Additional Recipe Skill.

The Iron Beast Returns to Bolsterlee

Bolsterlee/Iron Valley

By the order of Bjorn Heinsgraf, Champion of the Valley, the gatehouses of Deorlings Citadel have been opened, allowing refugees who fear the predation of the Illsevir in Windholme to flee south into Bolsterlee. Some War-Reeves on the wall are dismayed by the refugees fleeing the last true lands of the valley, and others lament the lack of conscription.

But many civilians make use of the option, although they may only be moving from the jaws of one disaster to another. As refugees flow into Bolsterlee and the disparate groups of the region are pulled together, they gather at Roachford, a shallow stretch of the Bolsterlee river spanned by a cobblestone bridge that is capped by a large tavern known as ‘The Striving’.

Once the headquarters of Khasim Al-Ja’ani during the Bolsterlee campaign a season prior, the new townsfolk feared a place of carnage and bloodshed, but found the site to be calm and clean, as if no battle had ever taken place there. A small tent township has grown over the late winter and spring, with some buildings beginning to go up. The town has been named Strivington, after the Tavern at its centre.

Game Information

A new town has been founded in Bolsterlee. This new influx of people and opportunities is a vibrant time for the region, unseen in many years. All investments of new characters, based in Bolsterlee, will produce slightly more, and purchasing a new investment in Bolsterlee is half as expensive as normal. The population of Windholme falls slightly and the population of Bolsterlee grows a comparable amount.

The overwhelming population of non-combatants means that Concordian forces resupply half as effectively in Bolsterlee. However any farms in Bolsterlee will produce as if they were one tier higher for the next two seasons. As Bolsterlee is now held by the Iron Valley,Iron Valley naval investments may now be based there by taking the ‘Find New Anchorage’ action in this game or as a new investment with a new character. Other Realms may also base Naval Investments there, but they would suffer the standard outside of Realm penalties.

Patriotic Metal

Windholme

With the Rumwold Vastness returning to the control of the Iron Valley there is celebration in the Rumwold township. Fearful of foreign interests stepping into the region, the Valleyfolk are happy to see what they see as their mithril returned to their hands and coin purses. Panoply priests across the Concord see the nationalisation as an affront to the pursuit of ambition, but cries of patriotic fervor appear to be drowning it out.

Game Information

The Rumwold Vastness is now a Realmic Resource, with its election being handled in the appropriate Iron Valley traditions. The decision is supported by many commonfolk in Windholme, particularly in the mining town of Rumwold. As such, Mine investments in Windholme will produce slightly more as the industry grows in the region.

Western Sun Rising

Mukarrem

Far from the shadow of the capital, the Andashi of Mukarrem are attempting to grow. By the writ of Senator Razil Del-Panoply, the tribesfolk of Mukarrem are being encouraged to abandon their wandering ways and settle in the small coastal hamlet. Many of the tribal leaders of the clans are appalled and refuse to trade with the township over the summer. However, many do come to settle in Nazafeza, doubling its population of the season. At the same time, wise architects and labourers prepare to build a trading port on the sandy beach, allowing the arrival of trading vessels from afar, rather than the beaching of boats that is the common practice. While contentious, it appears that Nazafeza is a town on the rise.

Game Information

The lack of goods being brought into Nazafeza constricts the economy of the region somewhat, as more fanciful luxuries are not purchased by the wealthy tribal leaders and the urban population cannot purchase simpler trade goods from the clans. Businesses in Mukarrem produce as if they were one tier lower (or half as much if they are tier one) and farms in Mukarrem produce as if they were one tier higher. Plans for a trading port in Nazafeza will be delivered to the Senator of Mukarrem at the Summer Summit.

A Quiet Springtime

Resinderholz

As winter drew to a close, the Spring Festival took to the streets of Wolstad. A celebration of good luck and hope for the coming season after winters that can be difficult in the Greenweald. Lacking the Baroness’ decree, the festival is smaller than expected and local businesses suffer somewhat as the normally city wide festival becomes more of a personal celebration held within houses.

Game Information

Businesses and Farms in Resinderholz will produce slightly less than normal as the seasonal festival is smaller than hoped.

Refuge from the Revolution

Lerona Mere/ Kingdom of Bordevar

As Bordevarian Refugees flock to northern Lerona Mere, chasing a similar climate and economy to their besieged Weiland, tensions have begun to rise. Local Lerona Mere civilian organisations accuse the new migrants of ‘lacking revolutionary spirit’ and ‘acting against the ethos of the new nation’. The refugees, almost entirely commonfolk, appear to be purchasing land together in small Bordevarian Enclaves, which the local Lerona Mere are referring to as ‘Kings Castles’. Small scale disputes have begun to result in violence, although none have died.

Game Information

Lerona Mere military investments that have taken ‘Independent Action’ in the last downtime or are attending their first event may roleplay having been employed as temporary guards in Northern Lerona Mere, trying to keep the local civil disturbance under control.

Breakwater Battles

Lerona Mere

Reports are coming from the Docklands Districts along Lerona Mere’s harbour. Dangerous street violence has suddenly erupted between numerous criminal gangs in the area.It is unclear what the source or cause is, but it is making a lot of the regular function in the area quite difficult.

Game Information

Naval Investments based in Lerona Mere that took ‘Independent Action’ or‘Trade with Foreign Ports’ in the last downtime will produce slightly less, as violence and crime in the Docklands districts causes some difficulties in moving trade goods.

Wars Economic Shadow

Lerona Mere

As the Shark marches on Mivara, eager to begin his conquest of Lerona Mere. With the Battle of Mivara looming large, the various mining guilds of Mivara are eager to get their resources out of the mining town before the streets erupt into battle. Lerona Mere business owners in the region leap at the chance to buy cheap minerals. Game Information As cheap minerals flood the market in Lerona Mere, businesses gain a chance to purchase cheap stock. Lerona Mere businesses can opt to have some of their income in Minerals by emailing [email protected]

Tension on the Seas

Trade - Artebazzan

Across the Great Trade Sea there is an air of danger, a feeling of a wave preparing to crest. Artebazzani warships watch those flying Concordian Colours with sharp eyes, and the closer our vessels get to the great city in the North, the less welcome they find. By the time The Summer Summit arrives Harbour Masters have begun to refuse docking access to ships flying banners of any Concordian Realm, something that is spreading further afield.

Game Information

As diplomatic tensions grow between Artebazzan and the Concord, Artebazzani ports are now closed to Concordian Naval Investments. The

Red Butcher of Wolstad

Resinderholz

Eisen Beasts are rare creatures somewhere between a plant and a haunting. Feeding on the blood of their victims gathered by their barbed vines. Using stealth to evade capture, they feed mercilessly, flaying their victims in a flurry of violence. Following the failed Slayers Hunt, a particularly vicious specimen of this cursed creature has been let loose in the vicinity of Wolstad. The creature travels widely around the Greenweald Capital and has claimed nearly two dozen lives since the Winter Summit. Being dubbed ‘The Red Butcher of Wolstad’ for the blood that reportedly clots against its vines. It has evaded capture so far and has spread fear throughout travellers to the city.

Game Information

The following characters investments have been affected by the attacks of the Red Butcher as working the area is difficult or goods sold in Wolstad have had their transports attacked: - Healer Klein - Odetta Deitreich of Wolstad - Ludwig Von Wolstad - Ulrich Felstead These investments will produce slightly less this Summit. In addition, these characters may get in contact with the Concord Team at [email protected] and request a unique traumatic wound inflicted by the Red Butcher. Military Investments will be allowed to take the ‘Scout the Frontier- Hunt the Red Butcher of Wolstad’ Action in the season after the Summer Summit in an attempt to hunt the creature down.

Continued Preparation

Resinderholz

The danger of the Blasserstreit plague is never truly forgotten and Greenwealders continue to prepare in their homes for its return to Resinderholz. Small pots on windowsills grow medicinal herbs and the larger alchemy gardens track genealogies carefully for maximum yield.

Game Information

Herb Gardens in Resinderholz will not produce Stonestem, instead producing an additional 1 Green Sunleaf and Rackoric. Herb Gardens may still be upgraded to produce Stonestem and funding a Herb Garden investment still works as it normally would.

Mercenary Minds

Andash

As the Battle of True Wilds draws to a close and the winter campaigners return to their homes, the warriors of Andash reflect on lessons learned. Hundreds of mercenaries flocked to support the 1st Concordian Army and their wisdom has been well headed by the Janissary Captains of Obregon and beyond. Andashi warriors now cast their gaze further and further beyond their own borders, eager to learn what else could be out there.

Game Information

With new skills and expertise gained from across the Concord, Andashi Military investments that take the ‘Scout the Frontier’ action in the Summer downtime will have increased effect.
