The huge city of Lerona Mere is a sprawling cityscape clutching the northern edges of the Bay of Promised Gold. Known as The City of Legends to those who speak Artebazzani, it was a powerful colonial settlement by the distant empire which became a important merchant city full of opulence for those who had it and suffering for those who didn’t. The old merchant houses of Artebazaan had come south to their colony, and controlled the wealth with an iron grip. For generations, Lereona Mere was a beautiful broken city of coins and cruelty.
The only way a citizen of the City of Legends could improve their place was upon the seas, in the service of or perhaps acting as one of the cities ‘Free Captains’. Beyond the bounds of the city these privateers settled islands, guarded trade convoys and explored the wide stretches of the southern ocean.
But over time the power of Lerona Mere faded, coin hungry oligarchs harvested more and more wealth from the city, its power became thinner and thinner, until the Illsevir came from the south and took holding after holding from the city, forcing it to join with the nascent Concord for survival. But when the triad of powerful houses in the city began to squabble over coins and trade agreements for the new coalition, the city had enough.
Armed by the Free Captains and led by charismatic leaders, the common folk rose up and overthrew the Trade Families and declared Lerona Mere a free city. In a month of riots, violence and flame the old rulers of Lerona Mere were gone, dead or fleeing home. Its people would decide its fate.
What remains of The Concords largest city is a future unknown. Revolutionary fervour has rolled into the city and appears content to stay. Daily there are new proclamations for political guilds, new theatres and new endeavours. Lerona Mere has become a city of possibilities and a city of chaos. Its people appear content to keep it that way.
However the concerns that brought the Lerona Mere to table in the first place are still looming in their minds, if only more so. The Illsevir still control the entire Bay of Promised Gold, with the new Concordian Fleet stuck at anchor in the City of Legends, these raiders from the south look at the walled port with hungry eyes, threatening every day to do what they have nearly completed to the East. Even beyond the predations of the Illsevir, pirate captains of the Twinblade Confederacy rule the trade routes that made the city rich in the first place.
Cut off from any sources of wealth, with ever present dangers at their gates, the citizens of Lerona Mere need The Concord. They need to be a part of a unified whole if they are ever likely to become whole themselves. They bring a cutthroat dedication, wordly savviness and youthful idealism to The Concord, and in return The Concord gives them hope for the future.
