In a circumstance where Bordevar has a crowned monarch, election of the Royal Ranger is their prerogative and choice.

Term

The Royal Ranger serves for four seasons (two years).  There is no term limit and individuals may immediately stand for reelection.

Powers and Responsibilities

Agent of The Crown - The Royal Ranger acts as the Crown’s chief agent for management of internal and external affairs. They will receive a briefing of concerns from The Crown at each Summit, with expectation that they will pursue these goals. Importantly, while they are expected to pursue these goals, they are not empowered to represent The Crown, they are a servant of The Crown, not a Royal Member. As such they only have additional powers beyond those listed here when they are explicitly granted to them by Royal Writ. The Royal Ranger is permitted attendance to any Ducal Council they wish, although they are not granted a vote in any Ducal Council concerns.

First Officer - The Royal Ranger acts as the head of the Kings Rangers of the Realm. While they do not Command the Royal Rangers, it is their duty to ensure the good training, equipment and moral fortitude of the Rangers of the Realm. In addition, if a Ranger wishes to join a Noble House, they require written dispensation of the Royal Ranger. The Royal Ranger is expected to make use of the Kings Rangers to complete their tasks as required of them as Agent of The Crown. Should a Royal Ranger cease to be considered a Kings Ranger (such as by undertaking Valours or Virtues) then they must abandon the title of Royal Ranger.

The State of the Realm - The Royal Ranger is required to submit a written report on the state of the realm to The Crown during each Spring Summit. This is in addition to their other requirements as Agent of The Crown.

Bow of the Realm - The Royal Ranger is subservient to the Champion of the King in matters of war and defence. The Royal Ranger is expected to support the Champion of the King in achieving their goals.

Recognition - Royal Rangers who complete a two year service of this role and are deemed to have completed their task with skill and good standing shall be recognised by The Crown with ‘The Order of the Gray Falcon’, their name entered into the appropriate tomes and a medal of recognition.

History

Originally a title that worked alongside The King of Bordevar, the Royal Ranger fell into disuse following the death of the King and degradation of the Realm. In the year 223, the Ducal Council of Heartsgrave supported the reintroduction of the title with the consent of the Wise Council, in the hopes of revitalising the role of Kings Rangers within the Realm.
