Champions are the greatest of a realm's martial heroes. Warriors of considerable skill, they ensure that every realm is represented within the War Chamber, even if they do not control a fleet or army. The Champions also ensure that a Realm's representation remains current and unmired in preconceptions.
Election
Champions are elected in the Autumn Summit of each year. Election of Champions varies from Realm to Realm in accordance to Realmic Traditions.
Term
Champions serve for one year, including the Summit where they are elected, acting as Champion during Summit and in the campaigning season that follows.
Powers
Representation: Champions are considered the leaders of a Realm's heroic forces, being responsible for their deployment and organisation in and around Confluxes. They are expected to be able to speak on their behalf to groups such as the Senate or Church.
Attendance: Champions are permitted entry into the War Chamber. They have a single vote within the Chamber and may not have any aides.
Inheritance: If an armies general is slain, the Champion will temporarily command the force, becoming responsible for its wellbeing and perhaps deployment. It will fall to the The Civil Service (if a Realmic Army) or The Senate (if a Concordian Army) to organise a replacement as soon as is possible.
Castellan: The Champion of a Realm commands a realm's Fortresses, determining their orders and looking to their wellbeing.
Responsibilities
Champions are expected to attend each War Chamber meeting where they are able. Champions are expected to be experts on the heroic capabilities of their Realm, acting as a primary point of contact and leader for their Realm's heroes.
As of Winter 222, Champions are required to present a written report to their Senators following each War Chamber Meeting. Senators may accept a verbal report if there are extenuating circumstances. Champions who fail at this responsibility will be fined 1 Lock. This was repealed the following Summit.
History
A creation of the Civil Service, the position on Champion was originally raised by the Iron Valley. The Valleyfolk armies were shattered from the long retreat against the Illsevir and there was considerable fear that Realms that were at a military disadvantage would be ill-represented in the War Chamber. The position of Champion was a solution to that.
In Winter 224, The role of Champion was amended by the Civil Service to serve for a year, rather than one season.
