High Historian
The High Historian works closely with the Concordian Archives and the Civil Service to guide research into the history, world and society that The Concord inhabits. In doing so they can reveal lost mysteries, forgotten techniques and useful knowledge.
Election
By nomination of a Senator and the vote of the Senate conducted every Spring Summit. Any Concordian citizen who does not hold a title may be nominated to the position of High Historian.
Term
As of Winter 224 High Historians serve for two Seasons. They may immediately stand for re-election and there is no term limit. Elections are conducted at the Spring Summit.
Powers
Research: The High Historian guides the Archival staff of the Civil Service towards aspects of research. Each Summit they may define the focus of the research for the next season. At the following Summit they will receive a report on that subject, which they may redact as much or as little as they wish. They may also request that the document be placed within the Secret Records of the Senate if they believe they have uncovered dangerous information.
History
The Civil Service requested the creation of this title in response to fears that the Civil Service should not be defining its own goals. The motion of the Senate to create the position was passed in Summer of 221.
Adeline Rossetti perished during the Winter Summit of 223, some time after their election to the title of High Historian. As a replacement was not elected by The Senate, the position remained unfilled, resulting in no historic research for the Winter of 223.
In Winter 224 the Senate modified the title to hold its term for one year, rather than a single season.
