The War Against The Illsevir

From Esterrapedia

Part of Winds of the World - Winter 221

No conflict that The Concord is embroiled in is so widespread as its war with the Illsevir.

These southern raiders have brought steel from the south and the west in their pursuit of conquering all of Southern Esterra. Suiting its size, the conflict against the Illsevir varies from place to place.

In the West the Illsevir armies lead by a bloodthirsty champion known by the Lerona Mere as ‘The Shark’ is being held at bay along the Fiorenza River. The fighting has been sporadic, but the difficulty crossing the fast flowing river and the vicious defenders emplaced along the ruined river villas of the vanquished nobility have forced the fighting to a standstill. A large force of Illsevir warriors, lead by The Shark have gone missing from the front, moving up into El Lungo Elsa, looking for a new route into the lands of Legend City.

To the South, the Bay of Promised Gold lies silent, save for its seasonal winter storms. The Illsevir fleet that held the bay beyond its distant islands was seen sailing south more than two months ago. What was originally seen as a trap has materialised into a dark forboding. Truly, the Concordian Fleet once again has control over the Bay, but if the Illsevir have left, surely there must be a reason. In their place, they have left work camps, spread across the distant islands beyond the bay. What were once Artebazzani hamlets and fishing towns are now tortuous camps for captives that fast ships evading the Illsevir fleet could only guess at the purpose.

To the South East there is celebration. The first victory against the silent invaders was won by a Concordian military commander named Khasim al-ja’Anni. As The Concord busied itself with the bureaucratic business of founding, al-ja’Anni forged documents of Command, took the Concordian 1st and 2nd army South over the border into Bolsterlee and launched a surprise assault. At the Battle of Roachford the Illsevir retreated, being driven from the field by Concordian forces.

Al-ja’Anni was tried for crimes against The Concord, and while his tale is something suited to another time, Bolsterlee now lies in the hands of The Concord. In the months that have followed, travel from the Iron Valley into the rest of The Concord has grown easier, and whispers about who the region will be granted to by The Senate are on many minds. But further south, ‘The Barracuda’ licks its wounds after being routed by The Concord. It rallies forces from other Illsevir garrisons, and looks north with hungry vengeance.

North of Bolsterlee, the situation is far worse. In the high lees of The Iron Valley, the Illsevir do battle with the ferocious Valleyfolk. Building to building, field to field warriors clash as sallying Illsevir raiders march out from Baelags Holdfast, the greatest fortress in Southern Esterra, and attack into Windholme. The fighters of the Iron Valley will not give up with a fight for every step of ground and the reassuring presence of the long bulwark of Deorlings Citadel to the west is proof of their determination.

The war against the Illsevir continues and only the future knows what waits beyond the storm and beneath the waves.

Game Information

The war against The Illsevir is pressing and there will be multiple chances to bring the fight to the Illsevir throughout the First Summit. Spoils of war from the Bolsterlee Campaign have been granted to the War Chamber and Senate for dispersal.

The Fortification in Windholme (Deorlings Citadel) is faced outward, offering 4000 strength against attacks from Bolsterlee and only 2000 against attacks from Baelags Holdfast. While this is a disadvantage, Deorlings Citadel always counts as an ‘opposed force’ to the Illsevir, ensuring that they cannot win an unopposed victory in Windholme, even if no Concordian forces oppose them.

Baelags Holdfast looms in the distance, a mammoth fortification of immense strength. Not only in Baelags Holdfast a fortress with a strength of 8000 fighters (excluding any forces garrisoned within), it is so large that it counts as its own region in term of the war campaign, albeit with a shorter conquering requirement of two victories, instead of the usual three.

Any character with a Military or Naval Investment may elect to have had their character and forces have participated in the fight for Bolsterlee. To do so, please email the Concord Plot team at [email protected] before June 26 2021.

The Concordian Pathfinders confirm the following:

  • There will be a chance to repel The Shark, collapsing mountain passes in El Lungo Elsa and stop the Illsevir from invading Lerona Mere, for now.
  • There will be a chance to strike at the supply lines of The Barracuda, which have strayed into Bolsterlee following the hasty retreat.
