Secrets of Skilful Artifice

From Esterrapedia

A Stallia Ceremony - Magnitude 4 - Machine

Performing the Ceremony

Performing this Ceremony takes at least 2 minutes of roleplaying. This Ceremony targets a character with the artisan skill who must be present throughout, but need not be one of the priests performing the Ceremony.

This Ceremony is an Enchantment. A target may only be under one Enchantment effect at a time.

Effects

Grants an artisan the ability to craft a single item that they do not know how to make. When the Ceremony is begun the priests must choose a single magic item they wish the target artisan to be able to craft.

There must be someone present who already knows how to make that item, but they need not be a willing participant.

The target artisan may be counted as knowing how to craft the item during the next season.

Until the end of the event the target experiences a roleplaying effect: You are fascinated with the working and making of things - any crafters, even ones that you are familiar with, have secrets to be unlocked if you only ask.

Description

There are many ways to make a thing, and there are many magics that lead to the same end. Machine seems to preference those that are unique, though whether the method of reaching their creation is truly an improvement or simply a lesson about whimsy and the inherent benefits in taking strange ways to a solution is as yet unknown.

The Artisan is inspired, following diagrams and processes that appear in their mind as if old memory - something honed, tried, and tested, but yet also entirely alien to them. These allow them to mimic the works of another, making something that functions the same way, but the knowledge is not in itself the same - the thoughts of the paired artisans are not shared in any meaningful way. Still, the outcome is what matters, and the item made at the end is just as good as if a master craftsman had made it.

Performing the Ceremony

This ceremony is, at its core, a dialogue. While the magical prowess from Machine will fill in the gaps in the mind of the target artisan, it is encumbent upon them to learn as much from their colleague as they can in the duration of the Ceremony from the person mentoring them. Machine's heralds have made it clear that shortcuts are not the preference to reach one's goal, and a genuine effort to learn will be looked upon favourably by Machine on the path to the Journey. Priests may support this by asking questions, helping with clarifying answers, and ensuring the two artisans speak to one another earnestly and constructively.
