The Baron’s personal spymaster, commander of their bodyguards, and leader of a region's constables, the Huntsmaster is a title of influence, violence, and power. As the leader of the regions Huntsmarshalls it is their duty to root out the mundane corruption within the Barony, be that spies, saboteurs, criminals, or worse. At the same time they act with duplicity beyond the Barony’s borders, sending spies and worse beyond the reaches of the Weald to maintain its security.

Election

The election date for Huntsmasters varies depending on their Bureau (details below). Any Huntsmarshall who is recognised by the Baron of the region the Bureau is based in may stand for the title of Huntsmaster. All recognised Huntsmarshalls based in the region may vote.

Term

Huntsmasters serve a term of two years, including the summit where they are elected. They may immediately stand for re-election after this term if they wish, there is no term limit.

Powers and Responsibilities

Silent Service -  Each season the Huntsmaster may submit a set of orders to their Guild via letter to their majordomo. These orders may either:

  • Target a friendly territory in the region the Guild is based in, or in a region adjacent the region the guild is based in. In this case it will function as a Grand Inquest, targeting specific threats or concerns as defined by the Huntsmaster. Alternatively, the action may function as a spy network if the Huntsmaster wishes it.
  • Target an enemy territory in the region the Guild is based in, or in a region adjacent the region the guild is based in. In this case it will function as a spy network, taking actions and targeting the enemy in ways as defined by the Huntsmaster.

Call the Hunt - Each season the Huntsmaster may name a single individual known to The Concord who is expected to be within the borders of The Concord. This is also done via a letter to their Majordomo Doing so creates a special downtime action for Huntsmarshall characters to pursue that individual during the season’s downtime. The difficulty of pursuit and results are dependant on a variety of factors including:

  • Level of intelligence held by the Bureau
  • Number of Huntsmarshalls undertaking the hunt
  • Distance between Guild and target
  • Danger and nature of the target

Foremost Hunter - The Huntsmaster is the leader of the Huntsmarshall archetype within the region they are based in. While individual Huntsmarshalls answer to the region’s Baron, the Huntsmaster is the arm of the Baron and is to be treated with respect and deference by other Huntsmarshalls. Their appropriate title is ‘Huntsmaster’. The Huntsmaster is a member of the Gildenrat.

History

There has not been a Huntsmarshall’s guild since the disbandment of the Wolstad guild in early 219AE. As such there has not been a Huntsmaster since that same time. During this absence of control the Baronys have seen a growth in crime and the movement of traitors within its borders, as the Huntsmarshalls who remain are aimless in their pursuit of justice and vengence.
