Chosen by the War Chamber, the Field Marshal acts as the leader of Concordian Heroes on the field of battle for a single day. They organise strategy for the coming strategic conflux and do whatever they can to see victory realised. After, they must stand before the War Chamber and the Senate to answer for their actions, for good or ill.
Election
The Field Marshal is elected during the first and second War Chamber meetings of every Summit after the Strategic Conflux and forces are chosen.
Candidates must be nominated by the Champion of their Realm. A popular vote is then held, wherein one candidate must obtain a majority of votes (50%+1). In the event that no candidate achieves a majority, the candidate with the least amount of votes is eliminated and a new vote is cast.
The successful candidate must then accept the position in person, with no dishonour to a candidate who opts not to accept the position. The War Chamber meeting that elects a Field Marshal may not adjourn until a candidate has accepted the title.
Term
The Field Marshal serves in the role from their acceptance of the position until the end of the next day. This does mean that there will be a brief overlap of Field Marshal, please see responsibility of ‘Report to Command’ below for clarity in this circumstance.
There is no term limit and individuals may stand for reelection the next time their Realm would take to the field of battle.
Powers and Responsibilities
Heroic Marshal - The Field Marshal is appointed to lead the Concordian Heroes during a strategic conflux. They have ultimate authority for determining the plan for the battle. They do not have the power to order generals, champions or other Concordian citizens to fight, so support of the War Chamber is essential in bringing their strategy to fruition. They are expected to provide instruction and guidance during the battle to The Concordian Heroes and any officers that they appoint.
One Among Many - It is not illegal to defy the instructions of the Field Marshal, but those who do so may be punished by their fellow citizens such as through Church declarations or other social methods. It is possible to commit a crime by actively undermining a Field Marshal. Any attempt to actively interfere with the leadership of a battle, for example by changing instructions or acting to prevent them from reaching their destination is classified as a crime against the state and would carry a heavy penalty.
Attendance - The Field Marshal may attend the War Chamber as a full speaking member.
Report to Command - Once the portal from the Strategic Conflux the Field Marshal was elected to lead has closed, the Field Marshal loses the powers of One Among Many, Heroic Marshal and Attendance. The Field Marshal is required to give a report of the Strategic Conflux at the next meeting of the War Chamber and the next formal meeting of The Senate. If the Field Marshal has died, the Champion of their Realm is required to give this report in their stead. If the Champion has also died, then another Champion must volunteer for the responsibility.
Commendation - When the Field Marshal gives their report to The Senate, they may name one individual or band that provided gallant service, heroic action or great sacrifice during the Strategic Conflux they were sent to command. The individual or band is recognised by the Senate and their names and deeds entered into ‘The Chronicle of Heroes’ for public notice and honour.
History
The Field Marshal was a strange role during the founding of The Concord, existing as the only title that could be held by a citizen who already held a title. In 224 the title was overhauled by the Civil Service to meet its current requirements.
