A Journeyman Artisan Craft

Description

Few magical items are as ubiquitous as Battleplate. Often taking the form of an expertly crafted breastplate or cuirass, this armour grants extra endurance to its wearer, adding to already considerable protection. Some examples of battleplate are truly enchanted, using arcane runes and investment to shrug off blows. Whereas others are just excellent examples of an armourer's craft, reflecting days and nights of careful heating and cooling.

In Bordevar crafting a set of battleplate is commonly the final test of an apprentice armourer or blacksmith. Without using any arcane methods, young armoursmiths must create a cuirass capable of resisting the strike of a two handed longsword (a test local hedgeknights are all too happy to perform). If the armour survives without buckling, shattering or stripping its harness, the apprentice has passed. Such armour is often referred to as an apprentices ‘Battleproof Plate’. It is commonly held that wearing Battleproof Plate is good luck among hedgeknights and a terrible fashion faux pas for noble knights.
