The Archmage is a Concordian title bestowed upon a mage by peers of the Shardcircle through an election on an Autumn Summit every two years. They serve both as a focal point for magical understanding and as an intermediator to the Senate advising on the use of the Shardcircle's Resources. The archmage is often seen as the public face of the Shard Circle; they are the individual most likely to be consulted by other Concord bodies when they wish to know what magical possibilities exist. The archmage is responsible for attending to the magical business of the Shardcircle. It is assumed by the Senate, the War Chamber and foreign dignitaries alike to be well-versed in the capabilities and lore of spellcraft.
Election
The Archmage is elected by the Shardcircle through popular vote. Any Concordian citizen present for the Shardcircle meeting when the election is taking place may stand for Archmage. They are elected in Autumn.
Term
The Archmage serves a term of two years. They may immediately stand for re-election after this term if they wish. There is no term limit.
Powers and Responsibilities
Appreciation
The Archmage can cast the 'Channel Waystone' Spell on a Concordian Citizen for the purposes of allowing them entrance to the Shardcircle. Unlike the normal use of the Channel Waystone spell, this only allows for a single journey to and from The Shardcircle. This power may only be used once a Summit.
Acceptance
Once per Summit the Archmage can give a blessing to a foreign character. This blessing allows that character to use Concordian portals as if they were a citizen.
Arcline
The Archmage is responsible for the use and powers of the Arcline, as per The Arcline.
Master
The Archmage are responsible for attending to the magical business of the Shardcircle. They work with Concordian mages to expand The Concord’s understanding and power in the magical realms and employ it to the advantage of its citizens. They are also the first port of call should the Senate require additional information on Arcane Mysteries. Failure to attend to these responsibilities in a satisfactory manner could be grounds for dereliction of duty.
On acceptance of the Title Archmage, they may receive a Staff, and a chain, together these are referred to as the Regalia of the Archmage.
These items are re-enchanted each year. If an archmage loses their position, then the items must be given to the new archmage. If part of the regalia is lost or stolen it may be replaced depending on the resources available to the Shardcircle; otherwise, it remains lost until the next Autumn Summit when a replacement is made. Theft of part of the archmage regalia is a very serious business. The Archmage is encouraged to take all appropriate precautions to keep these items safe.
