The Apothecaries of the Concord have a variety of potions at their disposal that can bolster, heal and enhance their drinkers. Potions are represented at Concord events by an item card and a phys-rep.
What are Potions?
Potions are brews composed by the magical herbs found on Esterra. These are created by characters with the Apothecary skill (although they may call themselves something different). These potions provide a quick rejuvenating effect or perhaps a powerful improvement and should form a part of every adventurers arsenal.
The common understanding is that potions are not 'magical' in the same way that a mage is magical. Rather they are a sort of science that isolates the various traits of herbs found in Southern Esterra and processes them in a particular manner to produce an effect.
During play potions must be physically represented (Phys-rep/ped) by a potion prop. This could be a small (plastic) vial with some sort of material inside, a salve in a container or something similar. The potion card MUST be physically attached to the potion phys-rep. Cards that are not attached to phys-reps are assumed to be spent.
Crafting a Potion
Potions are made by gathering the required herbs and giving them to the Exchange Storyteller, who will provide the apothecary with the appropriate item card. The apothecary is required to have a physical representation of the potion, which does not need to be drunk, but should appear fitting.
The process of crafting potions is not without danger. It often involves dangerous reagents being treated through unorthodox manners, arcane elements, and foul gasses. While the human body is durable, it does need some time to overcome the toxicity of this process, lest it succumb to a wide variety of toxic wounds. For more details on this system consult the Apothecary page.
Using a Potion
It takes five seconds of appropriate roleplay to consume a potion. You cannot engage in any other activity while you do this. Being interrupted does not waste the potion. You may not feed yourself a potion while in Bleed-out, although you may have one fed to you.
Once a potion is consumed, we would appreciate it if you could return the item card to the Exchange Storyteller, although there generally is not a rush. Unused potions should be kept alongside their Phys-Rep where possible, even outside of Events.
Tonics
Some potions are marked as ‘Tonics’, a character can only be under the effect of one tonic at a time, with a new tonic replacing the effect of an old one.
