The Precipice is part gateway, part stronghold, part beacon, and all shrouded in mystery.
Put simply, the Precipice is an arcane gateway that exists outside the mortal sphere, and yet also within the township of Passage.. The history and creation of this gateway is unknown, but its existence and what lies beyond is what brought the nascent Shardcircle together in centuries past.
Any mage who channels the waystone that forms part of the precipice is capable of passing through it to a ‘Place between Places’ that makes up the Shardcircle. In itself this protected demi-plane accessible to only mages would be a grand power on its own. But The Precipice glows bright within the darkness of existence.
By aligning the runes upon the Precipice on the Shardcircle side, the emanations of the Divine Spheres can fall more perfectly upon the lands surrounding its counterpart in Passage. It remains unclear if this is the artifact beseeching, controlling, or luring the Sphere’s attention, but what cannot be denied is that it works.
Powers of the Precipice:
Barrier
The Precipice forms the primary gateway to The Shardcircle and can only be accessed by Mages. Casting the ‘Channel Waystone’ spell on the Waystone at the Precipice allows that mage to access the Shardcircle freely for the remainder of the Summit.
Alignment
The Shardcircle can use the Precipice to align the Concord with a particular Sphere. Doing so creates a variety of additional effects which will be felt over the coming season and Summit. They are as follows:
-
Spheric occurrences, divine miracles, and Spheric influence will be felt across the Concord relating to that Sphere. The appearance of Spheric beings will be more likely (including spontaneous beings and Heralds). These effects and beings will be drawn to areas of need, faith, or lack within The Concord and if The Concord is found lacking, this could be particularly dangerous.
-
Aligning the Precipice will cause ceremonies of that Sphere at the coming Summit to require less magnitude. The magnitude reduction depends on the magnitude of the ceremony itself, and cannot be lower than 1.
| Ceremony Magnitude | Magnitude Reduction |
| From 1 to 10 | By 2 |
| From 11 to 30 | By 4 |
| From 31 to 50 | By 8 |
| From 51 and higher | By 16 |
Aligning the Precipice will cause particularly powerful ceremonies of that Sphere to be available to priests to perform, known as ‘Aligned’ ceremonies. These will be available for the entire Summit that the Precipice is aligned to that Sphere.
History of Spheric alignments:
| Sphere | Summit Aligned |
| Arcadian | Spring 225 * |
| Stallia | Spring 225 |
| Panoply | Autumn 226 |
Records kept since Spring 225.
* Alignment in effect during this Summit only to account for the change in how the Precipice functions.
