An Arcadian Ceremony - Magnitude 8 - The Ardent Mind
Performing the Ceremony
Performing this Ceremony takes at least 2 minutes of roleplaying. This Ceremony targets a character who must be present throughout but need not be one of the priests performing the Ceremony.
This Ceremony is an Enchantment. A target may only be under one Enchantment effect at a time.
Effects
The target character with the Surgeon skill loses access to it but gains Bulwark, Armoured, Weaponmaster, Hand-and-a-half, Bladehand, and two ranks of the Juggernaut skill.
As long as they are enchanted the target experiences a roleplaying effect: The edgeshine of your knives call to you. You cannot even bear to think about medical matters, nor stomach conversations about them - you simply need to spill the blood of your foes.
The roleplaying and mechanical effect lasts until the end of the event.
Description
In desperation, in anger, or simply to respond to some slight that their choice of profession has not equipped them to resolve with their own skills - these are the reasons that a Surgeon might reach out to an Arcadian priest to gain access to this Ceremony. Arcadian recognizes that not everyone strives for perfection in a martial sense, and that some are needed to be the healers and menders of those whose bodies are crushed by their ambitions - as such, this ceremony turns the time spent perfecting the art of healing into a temporary skillset as if they had spent that time training to be a martial fighter instead.
This Ceremony is not without some downsides - while it is in effect, the target not only finds themselves unable to concentrate on medical matters, but they also lose any skill at surgery as if they had never studied it at all. Individuals who temporarily give this up need a period of time to reacclimate their senses and knowledge after the Sphere-given skills disappear, and commonly spend significant time re-mastering the basics of their usual craft in order to ensure that their aspect has truly returned to normal.
Performing the Ceremony
Drawn from The Ardent Mind, this Ceremony, depending on the individual being chosen, can go a few different ways. There are a number of different reasons a Surgeon might need to put their tools aside, and so making the Ceremony properly fit the need is important.
For a Surgeon who has been slighted or is angrily taking the field, it might be them breaking things or swinging their sword wildly to have the new understandings and muscle memory come to the front.
For a Surgeon taking to the field to support their realm or for some other political reason, it might take the form of a training session to fully cement their new knowledge.
In many cases, the priest may call for the Surgeon to ceremonially give up the tools of their trade - either locking them away or giving them to someone else entirely as a mark of them putting their normal calling aside to take on the burden of military power. Such divestment of intent and purpose helps the individual to remain focused on the reason for their participation in the ritual, as well as helping their minds internalize the information and muscle skills that they receive.
