Overview
The history of the Magic Fire spell is a strange one, born of one of the many conflicts that disrupted the Shardcircle in its long history. What is known by all modern Concordian mages is that the spell is easy to cast and hard to master, regardless of its history.
The spell uses a mixture of intense heat and a blast of flammable energy to create what is essentially a blast of bright light and flame. For any creature with reasonable awareness and reflexes, this amounts to a minor nuisance and shock, easily dealt with through a few moments of feverish patting. However for creatures slowed by magical malady (such as the undead or the Illsevir) their slowed reflexes often result in frantic patting out of flames that have already bitten the skin and caused damage. This unique effect has found the spell to be of great use against the undead when combined with follow up violence.
The spells recent return to common Concordian arcane skills means that there are no magical items or alchemic procedures that can allow individuals to cast the spell. Currently it is limited to those mages who have learned its techniques. Some artisans have theorised that the magical item ‘Blazesap Striker’ may have similar effects, but research on the topic is still outstanding.
Given mages excitement on the new spell in their repertoire, there have been numerous examples of Concordian Mages casting the fire spell on eachother or bystanders during disagreements. Common consensus among Magistrates is that while the spell appears dangerous, it has less risk than other comparable magic. As such Magic Fire is often treated as a minor assault charge, often resulting in minor fines as punishment.
Casting
Type: Combat spell
Casting Time: 5 Seconds
Mana Cost: 1
Casting Method: Spellball or Polearm if using the Battlemage skill
Casting Call: Magic Fire
Effect
The target takes the Fire effect provided the casting method contacts them.
Targets affected by Fire must spend 10 seconds roleplaying patting out embers with a free hand. During this time they may not deliver damage, cast spells or expend energy. Rank and File Undead (Ghouls and Risen) will take 4 Damage in addition to the above effect.
It is important to note that these targets still have to spend 10 seconds patting out the flames on their person.
