Athermer's Folly is a Concordian Mithril Mine in Bolsterlee.

Nestled high in the Bailite Hills, less than a day's walk through difficult woodland from the border, you can find a busy mining compound that stands in stark contrast to the natural woodland around it. On the surface Athermer’s Folly is four large longhouses that house its workers and a fifth for eating, cooking, and other sorts of merry making. The real scale of the mine is found underground, accessible through a wide squat opening carved into the black granite cliff face.

Beneath the ground Athermer’s Folly is a complex of winding shafts and tunnels. Some are natural, following the headwaters of the Woodswater River that flows through these stones, while others are carved by hand. While still a young mine, Athermer’s Folly produces a significant bounty of Mithril to those lucky enough to win its ownership.

Originally commissioned in 221AE by the Senator of Bolsterlee, Athermer of Baelag’s Starcast, there is little record of the naming of the mine. By all accounts the mine itself (while beset by some tragedies) has been profitable, leading to some questions about the ‘Folly’ aspect of its name. Some suggest it was a jest by the Civil Service. Unfortunately, Athermer died in 224AE in battle against the Boars Head Clan, living this mystery lost to time.

In 222AE the Grain and Grail cult attacked Athermer’s Folly alongside other Concordian interests. In the conclusion of a powerful ritual the mine was choked with hungry roots and the waters of the river that flowed through it began to reek of corruption. Over the following two seasons the mine was put right and it was revealed that the mine contained some amounts of a rare resource known as Aetherial Kyanite. While Aetherial Kyanite is still largely a mystery to the Concord it was used in 224AE to great explosive effect against the Illsevir.
